CVE-2026-114106: Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal') in HKUDS Vibe-Trading
Description
HKUDS Vibe-Trading versions from 0.1.0 up to but not including 0.1.7 contain a path traversal vulnerability. This flaw allows remote attackers to read sensitive server files by exploiting LLM agent file-read tools that lack proper sandboxing. Attackers can use the read_document function or safe_user_path-gated tools to access critical files such as /etc/shadow, /proc/self/environ, and /root credentials. The vulnerability has a high severity with a CVSS score of 8.7.

Technical Analysis
The vulnerability in HKUDS Vibe-Trading (>=0.1.0 <0.1.7) is a path traversal issue where remote attackers can leverage LLM agent file-read tools to read sensitive server files. The read_document function does not enforce sandbox checks, enabling unauthorized file access. This allows attackers to extract sensitive information including system password hashes (/etc/shadow), environment variables (/proc/self/environ), API keys, and root credentials. The vulnerability is remotely exploitable without authentication and requires no user interaction.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation allows remote attackers to read highly sensitive server files, potentially leading to credential compromise and unauthorized access to the server environment. This can result in significant security breaches including privilege escalation and data leakage.
Mitigation Recommendations
No patch or official fix information is provided. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict access to the vulnerable versions and avoid exposing the affected functionality to untrusted users.
