Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: HKUDS
Product: Vibe-Trading

Description

HKUDS Vibe-Trading versions from 0.1.0 up to but not including 0.1.7 have a missing authentication vulnerability. This flaw allows unauthenticated attackers to access critical API endpoints because the require_auth() function returns early if the API_AUTH_KEY is not set. Exploitation enables attackers to execute root shell commands, upload malicious scripts, read session histories, and obtain partial API keys. The vulnerability has a CVSS 4.0 score of 9.3, indicating critical severity.

Technical Analysis

The HKUDS Vibe-Trading product contains a missing authentication vulnerability in versions >=0.1.0 and <0.1.7. The issue arises because the require_auth() function returns early when the API_AUTH_KEY environment variable is unset, effectively disabling authentication. This allows unauthenticated attackers to access the FastAPI surface and perform unauthorized actions including posting messages to /sessions/{id}/messages to trigger root shell commands via BashTool, uploading .py or .sh files via /upload, reading session histories, and extracting partial API keys.

Potential Impact

Unauthenticated attackers can gain unauthorized access to critical API functions, execute arbitrary root shell commands, upload malicious scripts, read sensitive session data, and obtain partial API keys. This compromises system integrity, confidentiality, and potentially availability, representing a critical security risk.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or official fix information is provided. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, ensure the API_AUTH_KEY environment variable is properly set to enforce authentication. Restrict network access to the API endpoints to trusted users only.
