Until a fix is available, ensure the API_AUTH_KEY environment variable is properly set to enforce authentication. Restrict network access to the API endpoints to trusted users only.
Description
HKUDS Vibe-Trading versions from 0.1.0 up to but not including 0.1.7 have a missing authentication vulnerability. This flaw allows unauthenticated attackers to access critical API endpoints because the require_auth() function returns early if the API_AUTH_KEY is not set. Exploitation enables attackers to execute root shell commands, upload malicious scripts, read session histories, and obtain partial API keys. The vulnerability has a CVSS 4.0 score of 9.3, indicating critical severity.
Impact
Unauthenticated attackers can gain unauthorized access to critical API functions, execute arbitrary root shell commands, upload malicious scripts, read sensitive session data, and obtain partial API keys. This compromises system integrity, confidentiality, and potentially availability, representing a critical security risk.
