Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CWE-770) in KNIME Business Hub versions before 1.19.0 allows an authenticated user to trigger excessive resource allocation during remote workflow editing. The lack of limits or throttling on resource consumption can lead to resource exhaustion on the server side, resulting in intermittent denial of service for workflow execution. The issue is specific to the remote workflow editing capability and requires authentication to exploit.

Potential Impact

An authenticated attacker can exhaust server resources by exploiting the excessive resource allocation flaw, causing intermittent unavailability of workflow execution functionality. This impacts the availability of the affected KNIME Business Hub service but does not indicate compromise of confidentiality or integrity.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade to KNIME Business Hub version 1.19.0 or later where this issue is fixed. No workaround is available. Since this is not a cloud service, remediation requires applying the official fix by updating the software.
