AI-suggested
Upgrade OpenEMR to version 8.3.0 or later, where this authorization bypass vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation is indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
OpenEMR versions prior to 8.3.0 have an authorization bypass vulnerability in the PortalPatientController::Read() function. Authenticated patients can exploit this flaw by supplying another patient's ID in the patientId query parameter to access pending demographic change requests of other patients. This unauthorized access exposes protected health information (PHI) including names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and insurance details. The vulnerability is fixed in OpenEMR version 8.3.0.
