VulnerabilityCVE-2026-25077cvecve-2026-25077cwe-94
Published: 05/08/2026 (05/08/2026, 12:21:27 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Apache Software Foundation
Product: Apache CloudStack

Description

Account users are allowed by default to register templates to be downloaded directly to the primary storage for deploying instances using the KVM hypervisor. Due to missing file name sanitization, an attacker can register malicious templates to execute arbitrary code on the KVM hosts. This can result in the compromise of resource integrity and confidentiality, data loss, denial of service, and availability of the KVM-based infrastructure managed by CloudStack. Users are recommended to upgrade to Apache CloudStack versions 4.20.3.0 or 4.22.0.1, or later, which fixes this issue.

Technical Analysis

Apache CloudStack versions 4.11.0 through 4.21.0.0 contain a code injection vulnerability (CWE-94) due to missing file name sanitization when users register templates for deployment on KVM hypervisors. This allows attackers with account user privileges to register malicious templates that execute arbitrary code on KVM hosts, potentially compromising system integrity, confidentiality, and availability. The vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 8.8 (high severity) with network attack vector, low attack complexity, and no user interaction required. The vendor recommends upgrading to versions 4.20.3.0 or 4.22.0.1 or later to remediate the issue.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation can result in arbitrary code execution on KVM hosts managed by Apache CloudStack, leading to compromise of resource integrity and confidentiality, data loss, denial of service, and disruption of availability for the affected infrastructure.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade Apache CloudStack to version 4.20.3.0, 4.22.0.1, or later, which contain fixes for this vulnerability. Patch status is not explicitly confirmed in the advisory fields, but the vendor recommendation to upgrade to these versions indicates an official fix is available. No alternative mitigations are specified.
