Product: Apache Doris

Description

CVE-2026-31377 is an improper authentication vulnerability in Apache Doris Frontend (FE) meta service that allows unauthenticated remote attackers to access internal metadata service endpoints by exploiting insufficient authentication of client-supplied node information. This affects Apache Doris versions from 2.0.0 through before 4.0.8 and from 4.1.0 through before 4.1.4. The vulnerability can expose sensitive cluster information. Fixed releases 4.0.8 and 4.1.4 address this issue.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in Apache Doris Frontend (FE) meta service arises from improper authentication where internal metadata service endpoints rely on client-supplied node information without adequate verification of the requester's identity. This allows unauthenticated remote attackers, under certain network configurations, to bypass intended access controls and access sensitive internal FE metadata interfaces. The issue affects Apache Doris versions >=2.0.0 <4.0.8 and >=4.1.0 <4.1.4. Versions 1.2.x and earlier are not affected. The vendor has released fixed versions 4.0.8 and 4.1.4 to remediate this vulnerability.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows unauthenticated remote attackers to access internal metadata service endpoints of Apache Doris Frontend, potentially exposing sensitive cluster information. The vulnerability does not impact integrity or availability but has a high confidentiality impact as per CVSS 3.1 score of 7.5.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade affected Apache Doris versions to 4.0.8 or 4.1.4, which contain the official fix for this improper authentication vulnerability. No other mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.
