A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in multiple Linux kernel commits as listed in the establishedFacts.fixedVersions. Users and administrators should update to a Linux kernel version that includes these fixes. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official patch. Exploitation requires CAP_NET_ADMIN privileges, so restricting this capability reduces risk.
Description
CVE-2026-31570 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's CAN gateway (can-gw) component. It involves an out-of-bounds heap access in the function cgw_csum_crc8_rel() due to improper use of raw indices instead of bounds-checked indices. This flaw can cause reads and writes before the start of a CAN FD frame buffer on the heap. The issue is confirmed by Kernel Address Sanitizer (KASAN) and affects version 5.4 of the Linux kernel. A fix has been implemented in several commits.
