Technical Analysis

FreeScout, a PHP Laravel-based help desk application, before version 1.8.212 does not properly enforce the limit_user_customer_visibility parameter during customer merge operations. This results in an authorization bypass (CWE-639), where users with limited privileges can access or modify customer data beyond their intended scope. The vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 score of 7.6 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:H/A:L), reflecting network attack vector, low attack complexity, and partial privileges required. The flaw is resolved in FreeScout version 1.8.212.

Potential Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability could allow a user with limited privileges to bypass customer visibility restrictions, potentially leading to unauthorized disclosure of customer information (confidentiality impact) and unauthorized modification of data (integrity impact). The availability impact is low. There are no known exploits in the wild at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade FreeScout to version 1.8.212 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. Since no official patch links or vendor advisory details are provided, confirm the upgrade from the official FreeScout release notes or repository. No other mitigations are specified.
