Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-40482 is an SQL injection vulnerability in ChurchCRM's FinancialService::getMemberByScanString() method. Versions before 7.2.0 improperly neutralize special elements in SQL commands by concatenating the unsanitized $routeAndAccount variable directly into raw SQL queries. This flaw allows an attacker with low privileges and no user interaction to potentially execute high-impact SQL injection attacks. The vulnerability was addressed in ChurchCRM version 7.2.0.

Potential Impact

An attacker can exploit this vulnerability to perform SQL injection attacks, potentially leading to unauthorized data access or manipulation within the ChurchCRM database. The CVSS 4.0 vector indicates network attack vector, low attack complexity, no privileges required, no user interaction, high impact on confidentiality, and low impact on integrity, with no impact on availability. This suggests significant risk to sensitive data confidentiality if exploited.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade ChurchCRM to version 7.2.0 or later, where this SQL injection vulnerability has been fixed. No other official remediation or temporary fixes are documented. Until upgraded, avoid exposing vulnerable endpoints to untrusted users.
