VulnerabilityCVE-2026-41252cvecve-2026-41252cwe-122
Published: 07/20/2026 (07/20/2026, 16:29:53 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: neutrinolabs
Product: xrdp

Description

A heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability exists in neutrinolabs xrdp versions 0.10.6 and prior when operating in vnc-any mode. The flaw arises from missing bounds checks on color map messages from a VNC server, allowing crafted out-of-range values to cause out-of-bounds heap writes. This can lead to denial of service or remote code execution before authentication. The issue is fixed in version 0.10.6.1.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability CVE-2026-41252 affects neutrinolabs xrdp, an open source RDP server. In versions 0.10.6 and earlier, a missing bounds check during the handling of RFB protocol color map messages in vnc-any mode allows a malicious VNC server to send crafted messages with out-of-range color indices. This results in a heap-based buffer overflow via out-of-bounds writes, causing memory corruption. The impact includes potential denial of service or remote code execution prior to authentication. The vulnerability has been addressed and fixed in version 0.10.6.1.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation can cause memory corruption leading to denial of service or remote code execution on the affected system without requiring authentication. This poses a critical risk to systems running vulnerable versions of xrdp in vnc-any mode.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade xrdp to version 0.10.6.1 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation or temporary workaround is indicated.
