A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to prevent the overflow by ensuring that the byte length of any single scatterlist does not exceed the maximum segment size. Users should update to the patched kernel version containing commit 06249b4e691a75694c014a61708c007fb5755f60 or later. Since this is a kernel-level vulnerability, applying the official kernel update is the recommended remediation.
Description
CVE-2026-43368 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's drm/i915 driver where a potential overflow of the shmem scatterlist length can occur when handling GEM shmem objects of size 4 GB or more. This overflow can cause premature termination of the object's backing pages, leading to memory handling issues. The flaw arises because the unsigned int length attribute of a scatterlist may overflow if the total byte length allocated to a single scatterlist reaches or exceeds 4 GB. The issue has been fixed by ensuring that the byte length of any single scatterlist does not exceed the maximum segment size.
