CVE-2026-46652: CWE-22: Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal') in intranda goobi-viewer-core
Description
A path traversal vulnerability (CWE-22) exists in intranda goobi-viewer-core versions 24.03 up to but not including 26.05. The vulnerability occurs because the application improperly handles filenames extracted from a Content-Disposition header, allowing directory traversal sequences or absolute paths to be used. This can lead to arbitrary file writes by the Tomcat process user, potentially resulting in remote code execution. The issue is fixed in version 26.05.

Technical Analysis
The Goobi viewer web application, versions 24.03 through before 26.05, contains a path traversal vulnerability in the ExternalFilesDownloader.getFilename() function. This function extracts the destination filename from a server-supplied Content-Disposition response header and passes it directly to Path.resolve() without sanitizing directory components. An attacker controlling the HTTP server supplying the file can specify filenames with absolute paths or '../' sequences, causing the application to write files to arbitrary locations writable by the Tomcat OS user. Targeting the deployed web application directory can lead to remote code execution. The vulnerability is patched in version 26.05.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation allows an attacker to write arbitrary files to locations writable by the Tomcat process user, including the deployed web application directory. This can lead to remote code execution with the privileges of the Tomcat OS user, posing a critical security risk.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade to intranda goobi-viewer-core version 26.05 or later, where this vulnerability is patched. No other mitigation is indicated by the vendor advisory.
