AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied promptly to affected Linux kernel versions. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu (USN-8566-1) confirms that this and other kernel vulnerabilities have been fixed. Systems running affected versions should update to the fixed kernel releases to mitigate this vulnerability.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's BPF sock_ops subsystem was fixed that could lead to out-of-bounds reads and kernel pointer leaks when a BPF sock_ops program accesses context fields with the same source and destination register. This flaw could cause stack out-of-bounds access and kernel pointer leaks due to improper zeroing of registers in certain code paths. The issue affects multiple Linux kernel versions and has been addressed by changes to the BPF macros to properly zero registers. The vulnerability has a CVSS score of 7.8 and is rated as high severity for confidentiality, integrity, and availability impacts. A patch is available and should be applied.
