AI-suggested

A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms that this and other kernel vulnerabilities have been fixed in updated kernel packages. Users should update their Linux kernel to the fixed versions as provided by their distribution vendors.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel framebuffer device (fbdev) subsystem was fixed to prevent a null pointer dereference in fb_videomode_to_var. The issue arises when the current framebuffer mode (info->var) no longer matches any mode in the mode list (info->modelist), leading to a NULL mode pointer dereference. This can occur when fb_new_modelist replaces the mode list without ensuring the current mode remains valid, especially when the framebuffer console (fbcon) is unbound. The fix ensures the current mode is kept in the mode list to avoid this condition.
