A fix is available that changes the mode change code to avoid races on the team->ops transmit handler pointer by updating fields individually and synchronizing in-flight readers. Users should apply the official Linux kernel patches that address this issue. No additional mitigation is indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A NULL pointer dereference vulnerability in the Linux kernel's network team driver (team_xmit) was resolved. The flaw occurs during a mode change when the team->ops structure is cleared and updated, allowing a concurrent transmit operation to call a NULL function pointer and crash the kernel. This race condition requires a mode change with CAP_NET_ADMIN privileges concurrent with network traffic on the team device. The issue was fixed by changing how the ops structure is updated to avoid touching transmit or receive handlers during mode changes and adding synchronization to prevent races.
