Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CWE-863) in Elastic Defend involves improper authorization checks that permit low-privileged authenticated users to access sensitive response action data beyond their permissions. The issue arises from access control mechanisms failing to properly restrict functionality, leading to unauthorized information disclosure. Affected versions include 8.6.0, 9.0.0, and 9.3.0. There is no vendor-provided remediation or patch information available at this time, and no known exploits have been reported in the wild.

Potential Impact

The impact is unauthorized disclosure of sensitive response action data to low-privileged authenticated users. This could potentially expose confidential information but does not affect integrity or availability. The CVSS score of 5.3 reflects a medium severity level, indicating a moderate risk.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Since no official fix or workaround is currently documented, users should monitor Elastic's advisories for updates. Restricting user privileges and reviewing access controls may help reduce exposure until a patch is available.
