Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-61398 is an improper encoding or escaping of output vulnerability (CWE-116) in the Apache CloudStack UI, specifically when using the Instance Reset Password feature. This flaw affects versions 4.15.1.0 through 4.20.3.0 and 4.21.0.0 through 4.22.1.0. Improper encoding or escaping can lead to security issues such as injection attacks or cross-site scripting if untrusted input is rendered without proper sanitization. The Apache Software Foundation has addressed this vulnerability in versions 4.20.3.1 and 4.22.1.1 and later.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability could allow an attacker to exploit improper output encoding in the UI during the Instance Reset Password process, potentially leading to injection-based attacks or other security issues related to unescaped output. No known exploits are reported in the wild at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade Apache CloudStack to version 4.20.3.1, 4.22.1.1, or later to remediate this vulnerability. No other mitigation or temporary fixes are indicated.
