Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: sipcapture
Product: homer

Description

Homer is open source telecom observability software. Prior to version 11.0.283, the `V4StatisticsQuery` handler passes the user-supplied `rawquery` field directly to DuckDB without calling the `sqlvalidator.ValidateRawSQL` function used throughout the rest of the codebase. Any authenticated user can execute arbitrary SQL statements against all data accessible through the FlightSQL service. Version 11.0.283 patches the issue.

Technical Analysis

Homer's V4StatisticsQuery handler directly passes the user-supplied 'rawquery' field to DuckDB without invoking the sqlvalidator.ValidateRawSQL function that is used elsewhere in the codebase. This improper neutralization of special elements in SQL commands (CWE-89) enables any authenticated user to execute arbitrary SQL statements against all data accessible through the FlightSQL service. The vulnerability is fixed in Homer version 11.0.283.

Potential Impact

An authenticated user can perform arbitrary SQL queries on the backend database, potentially leading to unauthorized data access or manipulation. The CVSS 3.1 score is 8.1 (high), reflecting the ease of exploitation (network attack vector, low attack complexity, no user interaction) and the impact on confidentiality and integrity.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Homer to version 11.0.283 or later, where the vulnerability is patched by properly validating raw SQL queries in the V4StatisticsQuery handler. Since this is a cloud service, the vendor manages remediation for hosted instances; users should verify their deployments are updated accordingly.
