Description

Homer, an open source telecom observability software, had a critical authentication bypass vulnerability prior to version 11.0.283. The JWT middleware functions would skip authentication if the JWT secret was empty, which is the default setting. This caused all protected API endpoints under /api/v1, /api/v3, and /api/v4 to be accessible without authentication. The issue was fixed in version 11.0.283.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-62253 is a missing authentication vulnerability (CWE-306) in Homer (sipcapture) versions prior to 11.0.283. The JWT middleware functions (JWTMiddleware and JWTMiddlewareV4) immediately call next(c) without verifying JWT tokens when the jwtSecret is an empty string, which is the default configuration. This results in unauthenticated access to all protected API endpoints under /api/v1, /api/v3, and /api/v4. The vulnerability is patched in version 11.0.283.

Potential Impact

This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to access critical API endpoints that are supposed to be protected by JWT authentication. Given the CVSS score of 9.8 with high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability, exploitation could lead to full compromise of the affected system's telecom observability data and functionality.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Homer to version 11.0.283 or later, where the JWT middleware properly enforces authentication even when the JWT secret is empty. No other mitigation is required as the issue is fixed in this official release.
