CVE-2026-62252: CWE-798: Use of Hard-coded Credentials in sipcapture homer
Description
Homer is open source telecom observability software. Prior to version 11.0.283, on every fresh Homer deployment using internal authentication, the bootstrap process automatically creates an `admin` account with the password `sipcapture` (stored as a legacy SHA-256 hex hash). There is no first-login forced-change mechanism. Any attacker who reaches the login endpoint immediately gains full administrative access. Version 11.0.283 patches the issue.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-62252 describes a use of hard-coded credentials vulnerability (CWE-798) in Homer software versions prior to 11.0.283. On fresh deployments using internal authentication, the bootstrap process automatically creates an 'admin' account with the password 'sipcapture', stored as a legacy SHA-256 hash. There is no mechanism to force a password change on first login, enabling an attacker with access to the login endpoint to gain full administrative privileges. The vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 score of 9.8, indicating critical severity. The issue is resolved in Homer version 11.0.283.
Potential Impact
An attacker who can reach the login endpoint on affected Homer deployments can immediately gain full administrative access due to the hard-coded default credentials. This compromises confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected system.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade Homer to version 11.0.283 or later, where the hard-coded credentials issue is patched. No other mitigation is required as the fix is official and addresses the vulnerability directly.
