A fix is available and has been applied in Linux kernel versions 6.6.144, 6.12.95, 6.18.38, 6.2, and 7.1. Users and administrators should upgrade to these or later kernel versions to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated or required beyond applying the official patches.
Description
CVE-2026-63812 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's f2fs filesystem related to incorrect handling of the FI_NO_EXTENT flag in the __destroy_extent_node() function. The flaw causes the largest extent length cached in the inode to become stale, potentially leading to filesystem errors and data integrity issues. This was observed as an error in xfstests generic/388, indicating corrupted extent cache information. The issue arises because the inode flag is set without resetting the largest extent length or updating the inode folio. The vulnerability affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to their respective fixed releases.
