AI-suggested
A patch is available and has been incorporated into Linux kernel versions 5.15.0-1117.124~20.04.1 and later fixed releases. Users and administrators should update affected Linux kernel versions to these fixed releases to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
A use-after-free vulnerability was identified and fixed in the Linux kernel's usbip virtual USB device controller (vudc) subsystem. The flaw arises from a race condition in the vudc_remove() function, where a timer may still be pending or executing while the associated vudc structure is freed, leading to a use-after-free error. This issue was confirmed with Kernel Address Sanitizer (KASAN) testing and was addressed by synchronously stopping and deleting the timer during removal. Multiple affected versions of the Linux kernel, particularly certain Azure Linux kernel builds, are fixed in updated releases.
