A patch is available and should be applied by upgrading to one of the fixed Linux kernel versions listed (e.g., 5.15.0-1117.124~20.04.1 or later). The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms the availability of official fixes. Systems running affected versions should update promptly to mitigate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the official kernel updates.
Description
CVE-2026-64005 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's net/smc subsystem where re-initialization of smc hashtables can corrupt active hash entries. This occurs because the smc_v*_hashinfo.ht is reset after initialization functions, potentially leading to a corrupted list. The issue has been fixed by removing the unnecessary re-initialization and clarifying the initialization with HLIST_HEAD_INIT. Multiple Linux kernel versions, including various 4.11.x, 4.13.x, and 5.15.x builds, are affected. Patches are available in fixed versions starting with 5.15.0-1117.124~20.04.1 and others. The vulnerability has a CVSS score of 7.8, indicating high severity, but no known exploits in the wild have been reported.
