A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions to resolve the double free issue. The vendor advisory confirms the fix is included in updated kernel releases. Systems running affected versions should upgrade to a patched kernel version. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A double free vulnerability was identified and fixed in the Linux kernel's octeontx2-pf driver within the rvu_rep_rsrc_init() function. The issue occurs when hardware resource setup fails, causing the same memory resources to be freed twice, potentially leading to memory corruption. The bug was detected through an experimental analysis tool and confirmed to persist in kernel version 7.1-rc3. The vulnerability affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 7.0.0 and specific older versions. A patch is available to address this issue.
