Description
CVE-2026-68083 is a critical vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ksmbd component affecting path resolution in the ksmbd_vfs_kern_path_create function. The flaw allows an authenticated SMB2 client to escape the intended share root by exploiting a race condition and improper path resolution, potentially leading to unauthorized file creation or modification outside the share. The issue arises because the create/mkdir/hardlink operations resolve paths from the real filesystem root instead of being confined to the share, allowing traversal via '..' components. This vulnerability has been fixed by rooting the create walk at the share and removing the vulnerable convert_to_unix_name() function. Multiple Linux kernel versions are affected, and patches have been released.
