A fix is available and has been applied in the Linux kernel at the specified commit versions. Users should update to a Linux kernel version that includes these fixes to prevent writable mappings of validated shader BOs. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official patch.
Description
CVE-2026-68445 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's drm/vc4 driver where shader buffer object (BO) mappings could be made writable by userspace after initial validation. This occurs because the mapping allows read-only access initially but retains the VM_MAYWRITE flag, enabling userspace to escalate permissions via mprotect(). This flaw allows modification of validated shader code, bypassing GPU instruction validation. The issue has been fixed by clearing the VM_MAYWRITE flag on read-only mappings to prevent writable upgrades.
