AI-suggested
Upgrade Chartbrew to version 5.2.3 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. The fix includes proper password storage and validation mechanisms with effective throttling to prevent brute force attacks. No additional mitigation is required once the application is updated.
Description
Chartbrew versions prior to 5.2.3 have a vulnerability where public dashboard passwords are stored in plaintext and accepted via URL query parameters without effective throttling on authentication attempts. This allows unauthenticated attackers to perform unlimited brute force password guesses on public password-protected dashboards. Passwords can also be exposed in server or proxy logs due to cleartext storage and URL transport. Successful exploitation grants access to protected dashboards and their chart data. The issue is fixed in version 5.2.3.
