AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions to address this vulnerability. The fix validates all device-supplied offsets and lengths against the skb buffer length, ensures table headers and datagram entries fit within the buffer, and prevents cyclic table chains by enforcing forward progress checks. Users should update to fixed kernel versions listed in the established facts. No additional mitigation is required once patched.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's net: wwan: iosm MUX downlink decoder allows a malicious modem to cause out-of-bounds reads and infinite loops by supplying invalid offsets and lengths. This flaw arises because the decoder does not properly validate device-supplied indices and lengths against the actual buffer size, leading to potential memory corruption and denial of service. The issue was confirmed with Kernel Address Sanitizer (KASAN) as an out-of-bounds read during normal downlink receive operations.
