AI-suggested
A patch is available and has been released in Linux kernel versions 5.15.0-1117.124~20.04.1 and later. Users and administrators should update affected Linux kernel versions to these fixed releases or later to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigations are required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
A use-after-free vulnerability exists in the Linux kernel's CAN ISO-TP protocol implementation due to improper synchronization in isotp_release(). This flaw allows a timer callback to execute on a freed socket, potentially leading to system compromise. The issue arises when isotp_notify() unregisters CAN filters without waiting for ongoing operations to complete, and isotp_release() skips necessary synchronization before cancelling timers. The vulnerability has been fixed in multiple Linux kernel versions starting from 5.15.0-1117.124~20.04.1 and related releases.
