AI-suggested
A patch is available and has been released in Linux kernel versions 5.15.0-1117.124~20.04.1 and later. Users and administrators should update to these fixed versions or later to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official kernel updates.
Description
A use-after-free vulnerability was identified and fixed in the Linux kernel's i2c mlxbf driver in the function mlxbf_i2c_init_resource(). The issue occurs when devm_platform_get_and_ioremap_resource() returns an error, causing the function to free a resource before accessing it to retrieve an error code, leading to a use-after-free condition. This flaw has been addressed by saving the error code prior to freeing the resource. The vulnerability affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 5.15.0-1117.124~20.04.1 and related builds. A patch is available and has been released in fixed kernel versions.
