A patch addressing this vulnerability is available and should be applied promptly. The fix bounds the frame_count to prevent overflow of skb fragment arrays. Users should update to patched linux-azure kernel versions as provided by their vendor. No additional mitigations are specified by the vendor advisory.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's thunderbolt network driver (tbnet_poll) could cause a buffer overflow in the frags[] array when processing multi-frame ThunderboltIP packets. This occurs because the frame_count supplied by a peer can exceed the maximum number of fragments the skb structure can hold, leading to memory corruption. The issue has been fixed by bounding the frame_count to the maximum allowed fragments. This vulnerability affects specific linux-azure kernel versions and has a high CVSS score of 8.8. A patch is available to address this issue.
