AI-suggested
A patch is available and has been released in Linux kernel versions 7.0.0-1014.14~24.04.1 and later as listed. Users and administrators should update to these fixed versions to resolve the issue. No additional mitigation actions are required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
CVE-2026-72173 is a Linux kernel vulnerability involving a stale warning triggered by non-migration PMD entries in the task_mmu proc filesystem. The issue arose because the kernel incorrectly warned when encountering non-present PMD entries that were not migration entries, a condition that became invalid after device-private entries at the PMD level were introduced. This has been fixed by removing the outdated assertion. The vulnerability affects certain Linux kernel versions prior to 7.0.0 with specific builds noted. A patch is available and has been released.
