AI-suggested

A patch is available and has been released in Linux kernel versions 6.8.0-147.147 and later, as well as other specified fixed versions. Users and administrators should update affected Linux kernel versions to these fixed releases to remediate the issue. No additional mitigation actions are specified or required beyond applying the official fix.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's mm/damon/sysfs-schemes component causes improper reference handling during error conditions in the scheme_add_dirs() function. Specifically, when the tried_regions directory setup fails, the error path incorrectly releases the tried_regions directory reference instead of the stats directory, leading to a stats directory object leak. Additionally, if the tried_regions directory setup fails at initial allocation, an uninitialized pointer dereference occurs, potentially causing kernel instability. This flaw has been fixed in Linux kernel versions 6.8.0-147.147 and later.
