Description
CVE-2026-72368 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's cachefiles subsystem where a double unlock occurs in the nomem_d_alloc error path. This happens because the parent directory lock is released twice when start_creating() fails with -ENOMEM, leading to corruption of the rwsem state. This flaw was introduced due to incomplete updates in error handling after a prior commit changed locking mechanisms. The issue affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 7.0.0 and specific 4.x and 5.x versions. A fix has been released in Linux kernel versions 7.0.0 and later.
