AI-suggested
A patch is available and has been applied in the Linux kernel after version 5.15. Users and administrators should update to the fixed kernel versions or apply the relevant patches to mitigate this vulnerability. Since this is a kernel-level issue, upgrading the kernel is the recommended remediation. No additional mitigations are specified by the vendor advisory.
Description
CVE-2026-72470 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's NTFS3 filesystem driver where the buffer used for log replay is not resized when the on-disk log page size is larger than the initially allocated buffer. This can cause a buffer overflow when reading log pages from a dirty NTFS volume with a larger page size than expected. The issue affects Linux kernel version 5.15 and has been fixed in subsequent commits.
