Published: 05/10/2026 (05/10/2026, 04:07:25 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: PHP Group
Product: PHP

Description

In PHP versions 8.2.* before 8.2.31, 8.3.* before 8.3.31, 8.4.* before 8.4.21, and 8.5.* before 8.5.6, when SoapServer is configured with SOAP_PERSISTENCE_SESSION, the handler object is persisted across requests via session storage. However, in the case SOAP requests results in an error, the persistance is handled incorrectly, resulting in freeing the object while keeping a pointer to it, which may lead to use-after-free. This may lead to memory corruption, information disclosure, or process crashes, with confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact on the vulnerable system.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability arises from incorrect persistence handling of the SoapServer handler object when SOAP_PERSISTENCE_SESSION is used. Specifically, if a SOAP request results in an error, the object is freed but a pointer to it remains, causing a use-after-free condition. Affected PHP versions include 8.2.* before 8.2.31, 8.3.* before 8.3.31, 8.4.* before 8.4.21, and 8.5.* before 8.5.6. The vulnerability is tracked as CWE-416 and has a CVSS 4.0 base score of 6.3, indicating medium severity.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation may lead to memory corruption, which can cause information disclosure or process crashes. This affects the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected PHP environment. No known exploits in the wild have been reported at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or temporary workaround is indicated in the provided data. Users should monitor PHP Group advisories for updates and apply patches once available.
