Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: ondata
Product: ckan-mcp-server

Description

CKAN MCP Server versions prior to 0.4.112 expose sensitive information in error messages. When the server encounters non-CKAN responses or internal exceptions, it returns raw upstream response bodies and internal exception details to the caller. This includes hostnames, internal IP addresses, database errors, and stack traces. The issue is addressed in version 0.4.112.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-73844 is a vulnerability in ondata's ckan-mcp-server where error handling prior to version 0.4.112 improperly exposes sensitive information. Instead of returning sanitized error messages, the server reflects raw upstream response content and internal exception details back to the caller. This can reveal internal hostnames, IP addresses, database error messages, and stack trace fragments when the server is redirected or pointed to a non-CKAN host or when internal exceptions occur. The vulnerability is fixed in version 0.4.112.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows an attacker to obtain sensitive internal information such as hostnames, internal IP addresses, database error messages, and stack trace fragments through error messages. This information disclosure could aid in further attacks or reconnaissance. The CVSS score is 3.7 (low severity), indicating limited impact primarily related to confidentiality.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade ckan-mcp-server to version 0.4.112 or later, where error messages are properly sanitized to avoid leaking sensitive information. No other mitigation is indicated or required.
