Technical Analysis

This vulnerability involves an out-of-bounds read in the GDfieldinfo function of OSGeo gdal up to version 3.13.0dev-4. The flaw allows a local attacker to cause the program to read memory beyond allocated buffers. The vulnerability has been publicly disclosed with an available exploit. The issue is fixed by upgrading to version 3.13.0RC1, which includes patch a791f70f8eaec540974ec989ca6fb00266b7646c.

Potential Impact

An attacker with local access can exploit this vulnerability to perform out-of-bounds reads, potentially leading to information disclosure or application instability. The CVSS score of 4.8 (medium severity) reflects the limited attack vector (local) and absence of required user interaction or privileges beyond local access.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the affected OSGeo gdal component to version 3.13.0RC1 or later, which contains the official fix for this vulnerability (patch a791f70f8eaec540974ec989ca6fb00266b7646c). No other mitigation is indicated or required.
