Description

CVE-2026-82617 is a critical vulnerability in Apache OpenNLP affecting built-in name-finder patterns for email and URL detection. These patterns contain ambiguous nested quantifiers that can cause super-linear backtracking or unbounded recursion when processing crafted inputs. This can lead to excessive CPU consumption or thread crashes due to stack overflow, resulting in denial of service. The vulnerability affects Apache OpenNLP versions from 2.0.0 through 2.5.11 and 3.0.0-M1 through 3.0.0-M5. Fixed versions are 2.5.12 and 3.0.0-M6.
