AI-suggested

Do not run untrusted container images with crun using the krun passt networking handler (krun.use_passt) until a fixed version of crun is released. Monitor Red Hat's official advisory for the release of a patch addressing this vulnerability. Avoid enabling rootful passt networking with crun in the meantime.

Description

CVE-2026-84042 is a vulnerability in crun when built with libkrun and used with rootful passt networking (krun.use_passt). It allows execution of attacker-controlled payloads from container images with host root privileges. This is a regression introduced in crun version 1.29 and affects all versions from 1.29 onward. The flaw requires local access and high attack complexity but leads to full confidentiality, integrity, and availability compromise on the host. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 is impacted when using affected crun versions with the specified configuration.
