CVE-2026-85400: CWE-862 Missing Authorization in TYPO3 TYPO3 CMS
Description
Backend administrators without system maintainer privileges were able to schedule any of the configuration:read, configuration:set, and configuration:show commands. This allowed them to modify arbitrary system configuration, which is normally limited to system maintainers. As a consequence, this allowed them, for example, to gain system maintainer privileges or cause a denial of service. Exploiting this vulnerability requires an administrator-level backend user account. This issue affects TYPO3 CMS versions 14.2.0-14.3.6.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-85400 is a missing authorization vulnerability in TYPO3 CMS affecting versions 14.2.0 to 14.3.6. Backend administrators lacking system maintainer privileges can schedule configuration commands such as configuration:read, configuration:set, and configuration:show. This improper access control allows them to modify system configurations normally restricted to system maintainers, which can lead to gaining system maintainer privileges or causing denial of service. Exploitation requires an administrator-level backend user account. No official patch or remediation level has been published as of the data provided.
Potential Impact
An attacker with an administrator-level backend account can abuse this vulnerability to escalate privileges to system maintainer level or disrupt system operations via denial of service by modifying arbitrary system configurations. This compromises system integrity and availability within affected TYPO3 CMS installations.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict administrator-level backend access to trusted personnel only and monitor for suspicious configuration changes. Avoid granting unnecessary administrator privileges to reduce risk.
