Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: grokability
Product: snipe-it

Description

CVE-2026-86764 is a high-severity vulnerability in Snipe-IT version 8.6.4 where the components.view permission is not properly enforced on the authenticated endpoint GET /api/v1/hardware/<asset-id>/assigned/components. Authenticated users with only assets.view permission can enumerate sensitive component details such as IDs, names, assigned quantities, and notes. The issue is fixed in version 8.7.0.

Technical Analysis

Snipe-IT through version 8.6.4 fails to enforce the components.view permission on the GET /api/v1/hardware/<asset-id>/assigned/components endpoint. Instead, it only checks assets.view permission on the parent asset before returning linked component details. The components.view permission is applied only to the available_actions.view flag in the response, not to the actual data returned. Consequently, authenticated users with assets.view permission can access component information that should be restricted. The direct GET /api/v1/components/<id> endpoint correctly restricts access with a 403 Forbidden response for such users. This vulnerability is resolved in Snipe-IT version 8.7.0.

Potential Impact

Authenticated users with assets.view permission can enumerate component IDs, names, assigned quantities, and notes via the vulnerable endpoint, potentially exposing sensitive asset component information that should be protected by components.view permission. This unauthorized data disclosure could lead to information leakage within asset management operations.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Snipe-IT to version 8.7.0 or later, where this authorization issue is fixed. Patch status is not explicitly stated but the vulnerability is fixed in 8.7.0, so applying this official fix is recommended.
