Description
CVE-2026-87039 is a memory-safety vulnerability in the Zephyr project's I2S driver subsystem affecting versions 4.4.0 up to but not including 4.5.0. It arises from insufficient validation of a user-supplied pointer during the unconfigure operation of an I2S stream, allowing an unprivileged user-mode thread to cause the kernel to perform arbitrary pointer read/write operations. This breaks the user-space isolation boundary and can lead to full kernel compromise. The issue is fixed in version 4.5.0 by zeroing out the vulnerable pointer fields during unconfigure calls.
