CVE-2026-87674: CWE-78: Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an OS Command ('OS Command Injection') in Brocade Fabric OS
Description
CVE-2026-87674 is a local privilege escalation vulnerability in Brocade Fabric OS affecting versions before 9.2.2d and from 10.0.0 through 10.0.0a1. It arises from insufficient access controls on internal IPC channels used by the system logging daemon, allowing unprivileged local users to submit malformed logging configurations. Improper input sanitization during configuration file generation enables injection of arbitrary directives that execute with elevated privileges when the logging service reloads.

Technical Analysis
This vulnerability (CVE-2026-87674) in Brocade Fabric OS involves improper neutralization of special elements in OS commands (CWE-78). The system logging daemon's IPC channels lack sufficient access controls, permitting unprivileged local users to submit crafted logging configurations. These configurations are not properly sanitized when generating configuration files, allowing injection of commands that execute with elevated privileges upon logging service reload. The affected versions are all versions prior to 9.2.2d and versions from 10.0.0 up to and including 10.0.0a1.
Potential Impact
An unprivileged local attacker can escalate privileges to a higher level by injecting arbitrary commands into the logging configuration. This can lead to unauthorized execution of commands with elevated privileges on the affected system. There are no known exploits in the wild at this time.
Mitigation Recommendations
No explicit patch or remediation information is provided in the vendor advisory or patch links. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict local access to trusted users only and monitor for suspicious activity related to logging configuration changes.
