A fix is available and has been applied in the Linux kernel. Systems should be updated to a fixed kernel version containing the patch that properly destroys the admin queue on removal. No additional mitigation is required once patched.
Description
CVE-2026-90229 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's nvme-apple driver where the admin queue is not properly destroyed on controller removal. This leads to a use-after-free condition causing kernel warnings and potential panics due to a NULL pointer dereference. The issue occurs when the NVMe controller fails to initialize and is immediately torn down. A fix has been implemented to properly unquiesce and destroy the admin queue before controller uninitialization, preventing the kernel oops and panic.
