Technical Analysis

This vulnerability in moxi624 Mogu Blog v2 (versions 4.0 through 5.2) allows remote attackers to perform cross-site scripting via the sortName parameter in the BlogSortServiceImpl.addBlogSort function. The flaw exists in the blogSort endpoint template file info.ftl, where user input is not properly sanitized, enabling script injection. The project has been notified but has not issued a patch or mitigation.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary scripts in the context of the victim's browser, potentially leading to session hijacking, defacement, or other malicious actions. The CVSS 5.1 (medium severity) reflects the moderate impact and ease of exploitation with low attack complexity and no privileges required beyond limited user privileges.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official fix or patch is currently available, and the vendor has not responded to the issue report. Users should exercise caution when accepting input for the sortName parameter and consider implementing manual input validation or sanitization as a temporary mitigation. Monitor vendor channels for updates or patches addressing this vulnerability.
