Technical Analysis

Apache CouchDB versions up to 3.5.2 contain a vulnerability due to a missing circuit-breaker in the replicator. This flaw allows an attacker who controls a replication source or target to trigger an infinite HTTP redirect loop, resulting in a denial of service condition. The vulnerability affects all platforms running these versions. The Apache Software Foundation has addressed this issue in version 3.5.3.

Potential Impact

An attacker with control over a replication source or target can cause a denial of service by creating an infinite HTTP redirect loop in the replicator. This disrupts normal replication operations and can render the service unavailable. The CVSS 4.0 score is 0.6, indicating a low severity impact primarily affecting availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade Apache CouchDB to version 3.5.3 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigations are specified or required.
