Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Apache Software Foundation
Product: Apache CouchDB

Description

Missing authorisation checks in chttpd in Apache CouchDB 3.5.2 and below on all platforms allows any request to read the full contents of a prefixed _user or _replicator database via an unauthorised API endpoint. The use of prefixed system databases is very rare. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 3.5.3, which fixes this issue.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-90800 is a vulnerability in Apache CouchDB affecting versions prior to 3.5.3. The vulnerability arises from missing authorization checks in the chttpd module, permitting unauthenticated requests to access the full contents of prefixed system databases named _user or _replicator. This unauthorized read access could expose sensitive user or replication data. The vulnerability is addressed by upgrading to Apache CouchDB version 3.5.3.

Potential Impact

An attacker can read the entire contents of prefixed system databases (_user or _replicator) without authentication, potentially exposing sensitive user and replication information. The vulnerability affects all platforms running Apache CouchDB 3.5.2 and below. There are no known exploits in the wild at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade to Apache CouchDB version 3.5.3, which contains the official fix for this vulnerability. No other mitigation is indicated by the vendor advisory.
