Vendor/Project: Canonical
Product: Juju

Description

CVE-2026-93336 is a missing authorization vulnerability in Canonical Juju versions 4.0 through 4.0.15. It allows a controller-authenticated principal, such as a unit agent or a user with only login permission, to read any application's charm resource across any model. This includes sensitive data like container-registry credentials, accessible via a crafted request specifying an arbitrary unit.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CWE-862) in Canonical Juju affects the unit resources download route, where insufficient authorization checks permit a controller-authenticated principal to access charm resources from any model. The flaw exists in Juju versions from 4.0 up to but not including 4.0.16. Exploitation requires authentication with controller-level access but can be performed by principals with limited permissions (login-only). The vulnerability allows reading sensitive application charm resources, including container-registry credentials, by crafting requests naming arbitrary units.

Potential Impact

An attacker with controller authentication but limited permissions can read sensitive charm resources from any model, potentially exposing container-registry credentials. This unauthorized access could lead to further compromise of container images or deployment environments. The vulnerability does not allow privilege escalation or code execution directly but exposes critical secrets.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in Juju version 4.0.16. Users should upgrade to version 4.0.16 or later to remediate this vulnerability. No vendor advisory content was provided to indicate alternative mitigations or temporary workarounds.
